Tightening Cash Game via Tournaments

After countless hours or weeks or months or what have you in the habit of playing only cash games, one can sometimes begin to find one’s game suddenly opening up in ways you had not intended. As online poker players of habit, we might begin to find ourselves, either in the midst of a bad slump or a good run, playing more hands than we had to begin with, loosened up maybe more than we realize, and perhaps still winning, but not quite on the perfect par of the game we play when coming to the table freshly faced.

One of the best ways I’ve found to bring myself back to center when I realize I may be getting slightly off my track is to take a break from the cash circuit and enter in a tournament or two. The method of tournament poker online play wherein one lives and dies by one set of chips can be sobering, and a good return to the foundation tactics of tight aggressive play on a limited economy. Though the skills inherent in each poker online player are different, the crossover and contrast can tighten the mind and help get back to the A grade cash game where every hand means actual dollars in the pocket.
