Vacations for the Environmentally Friendly Snowboarder
Hundreds of keen skiers will soon be looking for their ski trousers and shooting off trying to find the deepest snow.
And doubtless the result from your carbon footprint will be close to as far down the list of holiday essentials as a turkey sandwich after xmas.
Just last Christmas, a tardy snow was in the tabloids and tourists were terrified about the flecks of snow dissolving almost as soon as they landed.
Ski holiday business Chalet1802, located at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix Haute Savoie in the Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon neutral and offer skiers an environmentally friendly selection when organising their skiing holidays.
Chalet1802 owner SEDGEWIC stated: Last year was quite a surprise with the most warm wintertime in fifty five years in the French Alps. Mountain skiing areas such as Verchaix, Super Besse and Les Menuires lacked clients. It was mild and the snowfall didnt settle so much of the early winter skiing season in the mountains was limited. We selected to become carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the ski resort.
SEDGEWIC said: We’re not attempting to prescribe to punters but we believe it is valuable to provide the guests the alternative without augmenting the price of the vacation. If the client book with us and vacations in our Chamonix chalet they may further off set their carbon output and we take in the added costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - holiday makers wish for luxury but not at the expense of the environs, so we considered ways of diminishing the affect of a guest driving over here for a holiday.”
